Class of 2027

About

Ann and I joined St. Mark’s when our boys were little.  From the beginning we’ve all been involved in numerous ways, first as a family with young children, then graduating to other commitments.  Special memories include the boys’ annual involvement as musicians for the Christmas Eve service.  I served on the vestry once before, from 2012-15.  I was honored to serve as Senior Warden during Beth Knowlton’s first full year at our church.  Out in the city I’ve participated with pleasure on several nonprofit boards of directors, including YOSA, the San Antonio Symphony, the San Antonio Chamber Choir, and the Alamo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  At Trinity University I have been a member of the Music Department faculty since 2001.  I teach music history courses, and the university’s Grant Writing and Fundraising course.  For the Diocese of West Texas, I’ve served since 2017 on the Historical Commission.

I will work with the vestry to support the clergy in their work implementing the church’s recent Renewal Works report.  Sufficient latent energy lies in those ideas to sustain the attention of us all in years ahead.  As a musician myself, I will pay attention to ways I can help maintain the quality of our music program.

Ann and I have been members since around 2004.  We admire the church’s high standards for preaching, and we love, love, love the three-legged stool model of scripture, reason, and tradition that we see practiced at St. Mark’s.  I deeply value our church’s commitment to the classic Anglican hymnody we sing in service together every Sunday.  What also keeps me coming downtown on Sundays is our long tradition of excellence at the organ bench.
