Gillian Cook

Class of 2025

About

The daughter of British Methodist missionaries, I was educated in England, with further education in Montreal, Canada, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. I taught in elementary and junior high schools in England, Montreal, and Boston. I came to UTSA to teach undergraduates in elementary education, and graduate students in Instructional Supervision. I became a member of the Episcopal Church at St. Luke’s, San Antonio. In retirement, I was called to the Anglican (Dominican) Order of Preachers, where I co-teach incoming postulants. At St. Mark’s, I serve as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Greeter, and, at funerals, as an Usher.  I am a member of the Community of Hope, and I volunteer at Crockett Academy through Communities in Schools. I was invited to fill a one-year unexpired term in 2023 and am delighted to serve an additional year filling another unexpired term. St. Mark’s core vocation of Feeding San Antonio with the Bread of Life encompasses a wide variety of important ministries within the church family and beyond.  The variety of dedicated people on the Vestry enables us to support these ministries, and to work effectively with our own members and with the larger San Antonio community. I came to St. Mark’s nearly ten years ago, and soon found a lively and strong church family.  I treasure the abilities and dedication of the clergy and staff, the warm friendship of so many people, and the many ways to serve God.
