About

I grew up in Oklahoma City, where my parents were public school teachers.  I attended OU and then Harvard Law School, married Shirley Biggs in between, and practiced corporate law in Dallas for 15 years.  In 1983 I joined Harte-Hanks Communications, and my family and I moved to San Antonio. I’ve been married to Shirley for 60 years and have two children and six grandchildren. Currently, I’m enjoying retirement by golfing, reading, traveling and family activities.

Since moving to San Antonio over 40 years ago, I have been involved in church activities (at another congregation, and now at St. Mark’s) and the service ministries those churches have supported, particularly Mission Road Ministries and SAMMinistries. I’ve learned how important those ministries are to our community, and how much they need and deserve our support. At St. Mark’s, besides attending worship services, I have served on the Outreach Grants and Finance committees, and regularly attend the Rector’s Bible study on Wednesday evenings and a St. Benedict’s Workshop Bible study.

Over my time at St. Mark’s, I’ve come to appreciate how our pastoral staff and vestry lead us with dedication and good judgment, and how they serve as role models for us as we all try to live faithfully day by day. I envision vestry members continually seeking to deepen their own faith, to serve the physical and spiritual needs of our congregation and community.

Shirley and I joined St. Mark’s ten years ago. I look forward to coming to St. Mark’s Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings because it’s a welcoming place, and I’m particularly drawn to the fellowship, the music, and the thought-provoking sermons. I also appreciate that, at St. Mark’s, when decisions need to be made, we strive to make them by consensus after all voices have been heard.
