About
I am a San Antonio native who has worked in libraries and higher education since graduating from UT Austin with an English major. I was raised in the Baptist church, where my father, grandfather, and uncles were preachers in Mexico and South Texas, and I am proud to be part of a family with such a deep and genuine faith. I felt called to the Episcopal church while living in New York City, 20 years ago - first by the architecture, the music, and the beauty of the liturgy, then by the welcoming spirit of the clergy and the members.
I’ve attended St. Mark’s since 2010. My husband Matthew Anderson and I married here in 2017, and we were confirmed in 2019. The beauty of the liturgy and music fill my heart each Sunday, and I value all the opportunities for learning about my faith and making meaningful connections with other members. Participating in a faith where questions and newcomers are welcome means a lot to me. The Episcopal faith continues to draw in people from many different religious, economic, and ethnic backgrounds, and as one such person I feel I offer a unique perspective to blend with the whole.
At St. Mark’s, I’ve enjoyed taking part in the 20’s, 30’s and 40s group (later called “Mind the Gap”), embroidering baptismal towels for the Dorcas stitchers, confirmation class, training for the Community of Hope group, serving on the Grants Committee, helping with Youth group, and completing Education for Ministry.
I have always felt welcomed by the members of St. Mark’s and have grown in my faith and study of the Bible here. I believe all aspects of our core vocation are important and essential, and I have been fed by all of them. In difficult economic times our local food banks and community are now in more need than ever and as a vestry member, I would like to encourage our church to find more ways to feed those hungry with real food.
In my spare time, I love writing, reading, bird watching, photography, and crafts of every sort - including painting and knitting.
